Premios Eisner 2008 - Nominados

En la Páginas de la San Diego Comic-Con y en Newsarama, apareció la lista de nominados a los Premios Eisner 2008.

Cada año, en la Convención de Comics de San Diego se hace entrega del premio más importante de la Industria Comiquera Norteamericana, bautizado en honor del gran Will Eisner, creador de The Spirit y la Novela Gráfica.

Reproduzco a continuación el listado de los nominados por el panel de jueces, conformado por John Davis, Paul DiFilippo, Atom! Freeman, Jeff Jensen, y Eva Volin.

Pondré en color amarillo y destacado a quienes pienso que debieran ganar algunas categorías en las que tendré la temeridad de opinar... cóbrenme la palabra una vez que se entreguen los premios.

Llama la atención que la nominación de Ed Brubaker como "Mejor Escritor", no sea acompañada por la nominación de alguna de las series que escribe en solitario en la categoría "Mejor Serie Continuada", categoría en la que por preferencias personales creo que debiera ganara The Spirit, de Darwyn Cooke, sin embargo es posible que se premie la conclusión de Y: The Last Man con un Eisner en esta categoría. Cabe señalar que Immortal Iron Fist, la serie que coescriben Brubaker y Matt Fraction, sí recibe una nominación como "Mejor Serie Nueva".

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 8, se transforma en toda una sensación. Está nominada por "Mejor Escritor" (Joss Whedon y Brian K. Vaughan), "Mejor Serie Nueva", "Mejor Serie Continuada" y "Mejor Coloreado" (Dave Stewart). sin embargo creo que el premio más importante se lo da el público al transformarla en la única serie del Top 10 de la Diamond que no proviene de Marvel o DC Comics.

Este año marca la desaparición de la categoría "Mejor Publicación para una Audiencia Joven", que es reemplazada por otras dos categorías: "Mejor Publicación para Niños" y "Mejor Publicación para Adolescentes". Una de las nominadas es una serie que reseñé hace algún tiempo, Mouse Guard: Fall 1152 de David Petersen, nominada asimismo en la categoría "Mejor Álbum Gráfico". También figura PX!: A Girl and her Panda una serie creada por Manny Trembley y Eric Anderson y que hace casi un año recomendamos cuando se anunció su publicación. Originalmente apareció como un Comic Digital y fue el responsable dar a conocer a sus autores y llevarlos a conseguir la posterior publicación de Sam Noir por Image Comics.

Por último destacar que Brian K. Vaughan vuelve a aparecer en los listados tras reinar en 2006 y desaparecer completamente el 2007. El turno de desaparecer es en esta ocasión de Tony Harris, quien anteriormente fuera nominado por su trabajo en Ex Machina, como portadista y equipo de Dibujante/Entintador junto a Tom Feister. Como seguidor de Ex Machina y Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 8, tengo la impresión de que las nominaciones de este año para Vaughan son convenientemente coincidentes con el cierre de su colección más emblemática Y: the Last Man, sin embargo no debo descartar su trabajo en Buffy que me pareció muy superior al sostenido decaimiento que ha tenido en la serie Ex Machina.

Tengo algunos comentarios respecto a las nominaciones...

Ed Brubaker figura con cuatro nominaciones (Mejor Serie Continuada: Daredevil y Captain America; Mejor Serie Nueva: Criminal; y Mejor Escritor), lo que apunta algo en lo que he sido majadero con las personas con las que hablo regularmente de comics, hoy por hoy Brubaker está en Estado de Gracia, es notable que escribiendo tantas series (las ya mencionadas más Uncanny X-Men y The Immortal Iron Fist, ésta última junto a Matt Fraction), todas tengan una calidad tan buena, no sé si está sobrextendido, es posible que sí, pero es un gusto leer sus colecciones, particularmente Daredevil y Criminal.

Brubaker es junto a Bill Willingham el escritor del momento (Fables se lleva muchas nominaciones), sin embargo el trabajo de Willingham en lo que no sea Fables, no destaca tanto, es cosa de leer Shadowpact de DC Comics.

En cuanto a número de nominaciones DC se lleva el mayor número con 25 (7 de ellas compartidas), sin embargo ninguna de sus series del mainstream consigue nominaciones relevantes, como sí lo hace Marvel, donde figuran Captain America y Daredevil, lo más cercano a ello en DC es All-Star Superman, la excelente serie de Grant Morrison, sin embargo es una serie que se desliga de la continuidad para seleccionar aquellos elementos que más favorecen a la historia que quiere contar Morrison.

Destaco también la ausencia de Brian K. Vaughan, quien fue nominadísimo en la edición anterior, pero que en ésta oportunidad quedó fuera en todas las categorías atingentes a su oficio, sólo Tony Harris continúa figurando en los lugares de privilegio y hace su aparición otro socio de BKV entre los nominados, Niko Henrichon. Me soprende que "Pride of Baghdad" no figure entre las nominadas en la categoría "Mejor Album Gráfico - Nuevo".

Me sorprendieron también las nominaciones de Batman/The Spirit 1: Crime Convention, que aparte de tocar la sensible fibra comiquera por sus protagonistas, no es para nada un gran trabajo, en particular en el apartado de Jeph Loeb; y la de The Other Side, de Jason Aaron y el excelente Cameron Stewart (Seaguy), que es buena, pero extrañé una nominación para los Eternals de Neil Gaiman y John Romita Jr. que me parece superior... todo subjetivamente hablando.

Los invito a comentar los nominados y apostar por sus ganadores, pero mejor aún, si tienen la posibilidad, los invito a conseguirse copias de los nominados y probar series que tal vez no llamen demasiado la atención, pero que tienen un contenido muy interesante y tal vez merezcan más su apoyo que los sospechosos de siempre.
